Prayer For Stress Relief
Asking For Help From a Higher Power
Prayer can be a powerful tool for stress relief, giving you strength and hope in the darkest of times. Whatever your belief system may be — whether you believe in God or a Higher Power of any name or even just wish you did — praying will help you feel better quickly.
There are two books that I’ve found very helpful:
Adventures in Prayer, by Sharon Connors, and Handle with Prayer, by Alan Cohen.
Both books have their spiritual roots in Unity, which isn’t exactly a religion but rather a non-denominational spiritual movement of seekers, with a strong emphasis on inclusiveness, which is in turn very compatible with The Secret and the teachings by Abraham-Hicks.
I find the Unity approach to prayer very life-affirming. No matter which religious background, if any, you come from, you will likely get some peace of mind from this kind of prayer.
How to Pray
In terms of how to pray: “Please help!” is always appropriate. Of course, “Please help me by bringing me those $10,000 I need to pay my Amex bill right now!” may not be the best approach, especially if you don’t believe it’s possible.
